Why not? Sep 02, 2009
By Art Chance If you are a mariner, owning this knife is pretty much like owning a Rolex or a Nikon; you don't have anything else to want. Of course, if you have a Rolex or a Nikon, you know that lots of watches and cameras that cost a lot less work just as well, maybe better.
Until you get that flick of the wrist down so you can open it like a switchblade, it is hard to open. So, like most things on boats, it'll take some practice. It is a good, honest, well made tool, though the marlinspike could be a little sharper. Anyone who spends any time on a boat should have a rigger's knife on their belt, but is it four or five times better than the $20 Davis it replaced, probably not. That said, if you like good tools, it's a good one.
Only trouble is, once you have one of these you start looking at all those really cool and ever so nautical macrame knife pouches and lanyards. Then you have a really hard choice: you can either spend a Godawful amount of money buying one somebody else made or you can sit your lazy self down and tie a bunch of knots - you know; the ones you had to learn how to tie to get your license.

Very nice but a fatal flaw Nov 09, 2011
By CMF This is a beautiful knife, nice heft, fits the hand, strong, sharp, good steel, good useable sheath. But... the clever locking/closing mechanisim works via the loop where you would tie on a lanyanrd. It works by pivoting like a cam around it's pin, pulling the lock open. It is made of thin sheet metal and after just a few openenings and closings, it wears down and wont lift the lock open far enough. Mine got stuck with the marlin spike out and won't close. It quit while I was playing with it before I ever got to really use it. The rest of the knife looks like it would last forever.
I read a somewhat similar review at another vendors site, but decided to try it any way.
